Alex Lee

Protagonist of Anatta, Alex is a Chinese Canadian of mixed heritage who works out of Vancouver as a body hostess.  Taking what work she can while living in Vancouver’s East Side, Alex is not fond of her job, but continues renting her body out for exchanges to support herself.  Alex considers herself a typical Vancouverite, graduate from Simon Fraser University with a Political Science major and Psychology minor.  Finishing her degree in record time, she became employed with her father’s company, Anatman.  After having a falling out with Gerald, her father, Alex took up body hosting. Since Alex has left her position at Anatman, she has been drifting and trying to determine her life’s next course of action.  Meanwhile, she continues to mindswitch and participate in the global effects of this new technology.

Gerald Lee

Gerald is the founder and director of Anatman, a global advocacy association promoting the proliferation of mind exchange on an international level.  Born to a generation that was to be the pioneers of China’s economic and intellectual development, Gerald was instrumental in the development of mind exchange technology.  After his education in the west, Gerald came to Canada to operate his organisation and raise his daughter, Alex.  Currently, he is watching the violence in China increase and his black market interests being dismantled.

Agent Erin Anderson

An agent with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, Agent Anderson is the primary investigator into the death of Xiao Ming Liu.  Having determined that Xiao Ming had purchased a male body that she was living in up until her murder, and finding that Alex had mind switched with her just prior to her death, she is currently involved with Alex as her primary witness.  As a character that consistently switches bodies, Agent Anderson often changes her appearance based on the location she is investigating in.

Adam

Adam is a relatively unknown person aiding Agent Anderson in her murder investigation.  His credentials and affiliations are unknown.  Adam does not mind switch, and is one of the few characters that maintains his physical appearance through out the comic.

Chad Bukowski

Chad is Alex’s body hosting agent, responsible for setting up and enforcing her contracts as well as monitoring the exchanges.  Alex and Chad have a strained relationship, as Chad will often find black market and festish jobs that Alex doesn’t necessarily want to do, but has to for the money.  As an individual with a very flexible sense of identity, Chad enjoys jumping into and imitating different communities of people and can sometimes appear quite stereotypical.

Charles Mendes

Charles is a hired lawyer for the Anatman organisation.  Charles specialises in Chinese law and bureaucracy, helping the organisation navigate the complex Chinese system of governing.  Charles also has experience with international trade and criminal law, but it is not his primary position at Anatman.  Alex and Charles were involved when Alex was part of the organisation and had a rather acromonious break up when Alex decided to leave.
