Hiatus… :(

Days of Leviathan: Chapter 1, Page 37

I am sorry I have to do this shitty shitty thing. Days of Leviathan is going into hiatus for at least a year. The main reason is because I have too much going on right now for the type of commitment to do Days of Leviathan justice. DoL was meant to be a really long story. With my final year of animation school coming up and the grad film, I can’t dedicate myself to DoL. And I don’t want to give it a half-assed effort.

For the foreseeable future, any comic attempt on my part (and there WILL be more comics by me) will be short stories of at most 50 pages. That way I am not overcommitting and I can experiment as well.

If you really like long form stories, there is an awesome comic by my girlfriend, Anise, called Even in Arcadia. I am helping her thumbnailing many of the pages but she has dedicated herself fully to this comic. I know what the story and all I can say is it’s going to be sooo goooood.

Sorry to disappoint. I learned my lesson and there will not be another incomplete comic by me ever again!

Sorry to hear it, but it’s totally the right decision. I would even say not more than 20 pages. You can accomplish amazing things with short stories, try out crazy new techniques and then move on. Plus you end up with a story in your hand that is more stylistically consistent and doesn’t have way better art on page 150 than on page 1. PLUS you will have something attractive and cheap to sell at conventions!

Your post-animation school comics are going to be so amazing, I know it! Animators make great comics artists, I’m convinced. Have you ever read Blacksad by Juanjo Guarnido? He was lead animator for Hades in Disney’s Hercules, Sabor the tiger in Tarzan, and Helga in Atlantis: the Lost Empire. His talking animal comics have a solidity and dynamism the likes of which I have frickin’ never seen.
