Stupid cold is ramming a crapload of numbness up my nose. It’s tiring trying to stay awake. ><

I received my Lotus Root Children books!! Literally they came an hour and a half before Vanessa had to leave for APE. It was SO incredibly tight. My less fortunate friend, Jonathon Dalton, who also got the Xeric grant and printed his books with the same printer, was not as lucky… His books came late which made him miss his flight. Poor guy…
However, I don’t think we will be going to APE next year because it seems like the convention is becoming more craft centered and less people are going for comics. However, Canzine West, a local Vancouver convention was surprisingly impressive!! The table costs were really low, only $12 and it was in a great downtown venue and the traffic was pretty decent. I sold all but one of the books that I brought. People were just so receptive. Definitely gonna go to it again!

APE is this weekend! Unfortunately I can’t go. BUT, my girlfriend, Vanessa, will be there to represent. If everything goes according to plan and I actually receive the Lotus Root Children books tomorrow or the next day (which it should), we will be selling them for the very first time at APE. So if you are in San Francisco, stop by! I also have to give a huge shout out to Mike and Miriam from Real Gone Girls Studio, without whom, we would not have been able to get a table at APE. They are truly awesome people.
Animation of the day goes to The Sunshine Makers. This is probably the most disturbing animation I’ve seen because of the blatant cultural imperialism:
You know what’s awesome? Animation school because it’s so much fun and I learn sooo much. You know what’s not awesome? Animation school because it takes up ALL my tiiime and I can’t talk about anything else BUT stupid animation! For example, I know have much greater appreciation for Walt Disney as a person and disassociate him from the corporate giant tha is Disney.
But you know who was really cool? The Fleischers. Yeah, they weren’t as technically as brilliant as Disney, nor were they master storytellers but they had some wicked concepts. It’s too bad that they had way worse luck and timing than Disney.
This is probably one of my favorite animations of all time. It’s a Fleischer film. They rotoscoped Cab Calloway for it but it’s the best rotoscoping I’ve seen because they were successful at making it look cartoony.
