Today is a writing day, even though my sketches of late have been improving rapidly. Who would have thought that being out of art school would help me get better at art? Suck that, SFU.

Nonetheless, I don’t get to draw much today, I stupidly hit my elbow while on the bus the other day and it limits my drawing time to my pain thresh hold. So I get to do elbow friendly comic things, like posting new pages, doing convention paperwork and writing the script for Bailey Giordano and my next super awesome project that you guys will hopefully love.

I’ve been spending my whole day listening to old school Basement Jaxx. It puts me in a nice mood.

This story for Tomato Chicken is 24 pages long and when it is completed, I will update recipes once a week until the next story is done. Most likely those updates will happen on Wednesdays.

I’ve been working steadily on mostly boring paperwork and distribution type stuff, occasionally drawing some concept sketches and characters for a fantasy story. I feel dead slow when it comes to making comics, especially compared to Wei, but I’m getting a lot more done this year than last!

Could it be? Another page!

Last Friday’s update was non existent because I was travelling from Vancouver to San Francisco for the Alternative Press Expo. I like APE, but I never seem to sell enough there. It’s great to meet all the artists, but it doesn’t feel much like a comic festival anymore. It’s much more of an arts and crafts fair. This would be fine, except for that’s not how APE organises itself, so it feel like comics get lost in the shuffle. At least for us smaller people.

Nonetheless, Wei and I are excited because his Xeric copies of Lotus Root Children arrived about an hour before I left. I’m building our online store tonight, where LRC will be for sale for $10 +s/h along with the Tomato Chicken book I managed to finish! Tomato Chicken will be $4 +s/h, or you can just wait for the next few weeks to view the whole thing online! The book, however, comes with all sorts of extras, including sketches, recipes and a beautiful postcard.

I feel bad about being late with the update, so this week I’m updating three pages. Today will be page 11, Wednesday will feature page 12 and Friday page 13. The week after, I’ll get back to the two pages/week schedule.

I’ll let you all know as soon as the store is ready! Come buy books to keep us making comics, or I might get disillusioned and become an accountant or something. Please, don’t force me to learn math! O.o

I would write more about all sorts of fun life things, but the dishes need doing and I’m pressed for time. I shall tell everyone about my exciting life adventures in the next update!

Today’s page features a little girl talking to a baby chicken. It’s pretty awesome.

I asked a friend of mine how long chickens live. It’s because I was morbidly thinking about how old May would be when Tomato died. It’s not really a nice thing to think about when two characters have just met each other and are building their relationship, but it’s pretty important should I decide to make some more stories.

I was actually thinking about drawing some other short stories of May’s life, with Tomato of course. I’d be interesed to see how other teenagers think of a girl with a chicken.
